Policy Development

Every employer must have a written health & safety policy (unless exempt). The policy is divided into three parts namely 1) your statement of commitment, 2) how your health and safety is organised in terms of individual responsibilities, 3) specify the organisations own ‘in house’ rules and arrangements with regard to each relevant health and safety topic.

  1. Statement of commitment – the company’s commitment to the health and safety of its employees.

  2. Organisation – identify the responsibilities of directors, managers and employees, and how they aim to achieve their responsibilities.

  3. Arrangements – detail what your arrangements are for specific aspects of health and safety relevant to your organisation, i.e. arrangements for accident reporting, manual handling, first aid, fire precautions and risk assessments etc.
